AI hype and the boy who cried wolf

Scary AI headlines attract attention. I wonder what happens when they stop working.

A headline about OpenAI delaying an IPO over AI extinction risk made me wonder.

Is it really about the risk? Or have the headlines stopped creating the same hype they used to?

Add the deluge of open-source models, and neither would be particularly good for an IPO valuation.

The recent trend of using scary AI headlines to generate interest before funding rounds has been quite obvious.

But you know what's actually scary? The boy who cried wolf.
